Space or Proximity?

This is a debate I see a lot of people going through. Many people think they want land out in the country. I try to help my clients come to this conclusion as early as possible during the discovery process.

They want land, but they want convenience.

They want space, but they want to be near friends and family.

They want peace and quiet, but short commutes.

These are typically all conflicting wants and desires and most of the time you can't have both.

My opinion is that these decisions should be made by heavily weighing the stage of life that you're in.

Social media glorifies moving out to the country and letting your kids roam fields of dandelions and play with the deer.

I love that, but that's not really the daily norm. We see the fun 30 second clip of sunrises and coffee on the front porch.

What we don't see is 30 minute drives to the grocery store, no neighbor kids around. Constant lawn and property maintenance. The neighbor next door with 37 cars in the front yard. Those are all real things out in the country .

You just need to weigh the pros and cons of each.

Living in a more developed area allows you convenience and proximity.

Living out in the country allows you peace and quiet, space, and room to roam.

Maybe when your kids are little, you prefer the proximity. As time goes on, maybe you shift towards the space.

Maybe you live in the development now with kids all around, and you move out a ways as the kids get older.

There's no right or wrong answer, everyone desires something different for their lives.

These are just things to think about as you decide where you want to live and what you want your life and your family's life to look like.

These are the real heavy life decisions that take precedent over the paint colors and countertops you like.

Remember, you can always change the home, but you can't change the location.
